Explosion Temperature Apparatus EX-TEST 21

Determination of the explosion (ignition) temperature of energetic materials at constant heating rates or as time-to-explosion in isothermal mode.

STANAG 4491
Explosion Temperature Apparatus EX-TEST 21
Test modes constant heating rate or isothermal (time-to-explosion)
Detection sensors with automatic data acquisition unit
Design explosions of up to several hundred milligrams of explosives

Description

The EX-TEST 21 determines the explosion (ignition) temperature of energetic materials submitted to heating. The instrument is equipped with sensors and an automatic data acquisition unit that registers the explosion effects automatically. This fully replaces visual observation by the operator and provides exact testing results free of human errors.

Unlike classic instruments, decomposition is recognized regardless of whether it is accompanied by sound or light emission. The robust design withstands an explosion of up to several hundred milligrams of explosives.

EX-TEST 21 — test head with sample tubes and thermocouples

Test modes

  • Constant heating rate — determination of the explosion (ignition) temperature at a defined heating rate
  • Isothermal — determination of the time-to-explosion at constant temperature

Software

The supplied software handles data acquisition, analysis and archiving of the measurements.

Applications

  • Quality control in the manufacture of explosives
  • Quality control of pyrotechnic mixtures
  • Quality control of propellants
  • Testing per STANAG 4491
  • Determination of the explosion temperature at constant heating rates
  • Isothermal mode for determining the time-to-explosion
  • Robust design capable of withstanding an explosion of up to several hundred milligrams of explosives
