IMS 8500 Intelligent Measurement System
Modular measurement system for acquiring and evaluating ballistic timing data — projectile velocity and rate of fire, plus gas-pressure curves in documented configurations.
Description
The IMS 8500 Intelligent Measurement System acquires ballistic timing signals and provides the measured values for computer-based evaluation and documentation. Projectile velocity is calculated from the flight time determined with two light screens and the measuring base. For rate-of-fire measurements, the system processes the timing pulses from a suitable sensor and derives the firing sequence from their intervals.
The archived product documentation describes several configurations. The data sheet lists the IMS 8500-1 and IMS 8500-2 as a modular system for velocity and rate of fire; the IMS 8500-2 additionally documents a transient recorder module for acquiring gas-pressure curves. The later manual for the IMS 8500-01 configuration describes a timing device for projectile velocity and rate of fire. The 400 ns data, dimensions and weight stated above refer specifically to this IMS 8500-01 documentation.
DRELLO Baso26 evaluation software
Measurement data is acquired, evaluated and documented on a PC with the current DRELLO evaluation software Baso26. It replaces the earlier INLOC and INLOC 2040 evaluation programs.
Distinction from the IMS 8510
The IMS 8500 is not the same product as the IMS 8510-1. The IMS 8500 covers the timing tasks described here and, depending on the documented configuration, the acquisition of gas-pressure curves. The IMS 8510-1 is a separate data acquisition and evaluation unit for the LS 30i IR Precision Light Barrier and Series 610 optical sensors, including fuze running-time and tandem-delay measurements.
Measurement tasks
- Projectile velocity from flight time and a defined measuring base
- Rate of fire from the intervals between consecutive sensor pulses
- Gas-pressure curves with the transient recorder module documented for the IMS 8500-2
The exact device configuration, interfaces and evaluation software depend on the application and must be coordinated for the intended test setup.
