Highspeed-Kamerasysteme (High-Speed Camera Systems)

High-speed imaging for ballistic testing — impact, penetration and projectile behaviour made visible. Application-specific configuration on request.

What high-speed imaging delivers

Ballistic sensors deliver numbers: velocity, rate of fire, yaw angle, pressure. What happens between two measuring points stays invisible. A high-speed recording closes exactly that gap — it shows the event itself, at a time resolution in which a projectile stands still in a single frame.

High-speed image — projectile before impact on the target plate High-speed image — impact and material removal on the target plate High-speed image — projectile after penetration with fragment cloud

The sequence shows a penetration test from our test laboratory: approach, impact with material removal, and the state of projectile and target plate immediately after passage. Microseconds lie between the three frames.

Typical test tasks

  • Penetration and impact analysis — penetration behaviour, material removal, fragment and spall formation on the target plate
  • Projectile behaviour in flight — yaw angle, tumbling and deformation, complementing yaw angle measurement
  • Muzzle events — exit, gas jet and muzzle flash over time
  • Function analysis — breech, feed and ejection sequences on automatic weapons
  • Fault clarification — traceable root cause analysis when a test takes an unexpected course

Footage from our test laboratory

Three examples from our own test series: weapon function, material impact and a projectile in flight. The clips have no sound.

Integration into the measurement chain

The camera is not operated alongside the measurement equipment but triggered from within it: an existing light barrier, an optical sensor or the measurement system provides the trigger, so the image material matches the measured values in time. A test report can therefore be supplemented with exactly the sequence that explains the recorded value.

Configuration

Camera, optics, lighting and triggering depend on the test task — from caliber and velocity through recording distance to the light available in the shooting range. We configure the setup for the application and supply it as part of the test installation. Quotation and configuration on request.

  • Reveals events that sensors alone cannot resolve
  • Impact, penetration and fragment behaviour frame by frame
  • Projectile behaviour in flight — yaw angle, tumbling, deformation
  • Muzzle events and weapon function sequence
  • Triggered from the existing measurement chain, e.g. by a light barrier or sensor
  • Image material as evidence in the test report, alongside the measured value
  • Camera, optics and lighting configured for the test task — on request
